The Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT) programme at Canterbury College enables eligible migrants to participate in English language courses, helping them to settle into communities and work.
Course Fees
- Full-time – $300 a week ($15 an hour)
- Part-time – $180 a week ($15 an hour)
- This is a pre-paid English course

Full time – 20 hours + 3 hours self-study a week (4 hours a day, Monday – Friday 9.00am to 1.30pm)
Part time – 12 hours a week (2.5 hours a day, Monday – Friday 9.00am to 12.30pm)
Part time – 8 hours a week (3 days a week)

What is PELT?
Canterbury College is approved by TEC to offer Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT) Courses.
The Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT) programme enables eligible migrants to participate in English language courses, helping them to settle into communities and work.
The PELT course can be studied part-time or full-time. It is taught in small classes using English language activities, discussions, role play, textbooks, class communication and various digital resources. This class will help the students to improve their English skills for everyday life and become more skilled in dealing with common situations in New Zealand. The classes are designed to help you to speak more fluently. The students will also enhance their listening, writing and reading skills.
Eligibility
PELT is TEC funded English course. To be eligible to enrol in Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT) courses you must be a migrant who has paid money for English language tuition to Immigration New Zealand before you arrived in New Zealand. As a part of their residency requirements, some migrants are required to pay English language tuition fees to Immigration New Zealand before arriving in New Zealand.

- Copy of Passport Photo Page
- Copy of Current NZ Resident or PR Visa
- Copy of your Immigration New Zealand Pre-purchased English Tuition Receipt
