This step improves your English Literacy skills to allow you to start Step 2.

Step 2 – Study Reading & Writing for Academic Purposes EAP Level 4 (two units)

This step takes your English Literacy skills to the level required for the entry to a university in New Zealand.

Why EAP Level 3 ?

Canterbury College offers two EAP (English for Academic Purposes) modules at Level 3: Reading (unit 30511) and Writing (unit 30508). You need these two units before you can begin studying EAP modules at Level 4: Reading (unit 22751) and Writing (unit 22750). The Level 4 modules provide you with a pathway to university entrance. This is an excellent program for all students who are not yet ready to study EAP Level 4 and who would like an alternative to the IELTS examination. These EAP units are also part of New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL Level 3, Applied).

This Course Will help You To:

  • Read and understand complex texts with a large degree of independence
  • Write clear connected texts on reasonably familiar topics
  • Pass the unit standard assessment as you study. No final exam needed!
  • Gateway to studying English for Academic Purposes at Level 4, which gives literacy credits for University Entrance

  • Resit (if required) – $200 per credit

Entry Requirements

  • The entry can be through the Canterbury College Internal English Language Proficiency Assessment, Canterbury College English Test (CCET),
  • OR completion of NZCEL Level 2 (General),
  • OR an overall IELTS proficiency level in Academic English of 5.0 with no individual band score lower than 5.0,
  • OR an acceptable equivalent score from an NZQA approved International English Language Test.
